Ecology North is very grateful to the Yellowknife Community Foundation for support to carry out this project!

Eating local! There are many benefits to growing your own fruits and vegetables and harvesting foods from the local landscape...fresh, healthy, and inexpensive produce and protein, increased food security, a reduction in the amount of fossil fuels needed to transport food, stronger connections with the local landscape, and an opportunity for community-building by sharing food production and harvesting knowledge with one another.
Composting is a vital link in the food production cycle - it enables us to convert waste organic materials into a valuable soil amendment that helps future garden crops to flourish!
From May - September, 2008, Ecology North teamed up with the Yellowknife Community Garden Collective to present a series of hands-on workshops related to local food production and backyard composting:
Do you have ideas for future workshop topics? Are you interested in helping Ecology North to present future local food and composting programs? Please contact us with your ideas or to volunteer!
