Youth Ecology Club

Our activities will focus on using mostly local renewable resources and local skills to make products useful for the community such as...

Local Harvesting
Learn how to snowshoe and catch fish under the ice.  Share tea and fresh fish cooked over a winter fire.

The northern sky...
Head out and view the constellations and listen to owls calling at night!

The Circle of Life
Learn about prey and predator interactions and catch a ride on a dogsled.

Fish netting under ice
Set and haul nets to provide fish for a community feast

Ecology North is very grateful to the following organizations for financial support to run the Youth Ecology Club.  Also a huge thank you to our dedicated team of volunteers, without whom the Club would not exist!
Summer 2010

Youth Ecology Club returns!

Ecology North's Youth Ecology Club provides exciting, hands-on learning activities for youth (ages 7-14) and families from N'dilo, Dettah and Yellowknife!

This group will create opportunities for youth to participate in fun, extracurricular activities that encourage learning about the land, local ecology, and ways we can live more lightly on the land.

The next YEC activity of Summer 2010 will be a "Green Thumb" gathering to be held on Saturday, September 11th from 10:00-11:00 am at the Mary Murphy Senior Citizen's Home, Garden Plot (5124 - 52nd Street, Yellowknife).

This activity will allow the youth who participated in the first summer event to see the fruits of their labour and, for those who weren't there, you can see what vegetables we've grown.  Come join us for the harvest - which will be showcased in a chowder at the Fall Harvest Fair!
